Taylor Swift has no need to worry about the $42 million lawsuit that has been filed against her. Jesse Graham, whose real name is Jesse Braham, is suing Swift for allegedly stealing lyrics from his song “Haters Gone Hate” and using them in her song “Shake it Off”.
In analyzing this case the Court is going to look to see if Swift took lyrics from Graham’s song without altering them in a substantial way. Graham’s song contains the lyrics “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.” Swift’s chorus begins “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play. And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”
There is no other part of the songs that is similar between the two. Without looking further you can see that Swift did not use the words exactly in her song, thus if she did get the idea from Graham she transformed the lyrics, making them legal to use.
Taylor has no reason to worry about this lawsuit as her lawyers will have it taken care of in no time, and the haters will continue to hate.
